How the internet works

The information used to get packets to their destinations are contained in routing tables kept by each router connected to the Internet. Routers are packet switches. A router is usually connected between networks to route packets between them. Each router knows about it's sub-networks and which IP addresses they use.

data travel
Routing all systems through IP means having just one network to maintain and upgrade. Data travels across the internet in packets. Each packet can carry a maximum of 1,500 bytes. ... When you send an e-mail to someone, the message breaks up into packets that travel across the network.
user

a user is a person who accsess the internet/inter web for infor mation and request accsess to websites and games

providers
The ISP may then connect to a larger network and become part of their network. The Internet is simply a network of networks. Most large communications companies have their own dedicated backbones connecting various regions. In each region, the company has a Point of Presence (POP).
Modem
A modem is typically used to send digital data over a phone line. The sending modem modulates the data into a signal that is compatible with the phone line, and the receiving modem demodulates the signal back into digital data. Wireless modems convert digital data into radio signals and back.

China, the country with most users (642 million in 2014), represents nearly 22% of total, and has more users than the next three countries combined (United States, India, and Japan). Among the top 20 countries, India is the one with the lowest penetration: 19% and the highest yearly growth rate.
internet usage
Internet usage is the amount of data (in bytes, kilobytes, megabytes or gigabytes) transferred between your computer and the Internet in a given period of time. Data is transferred two ways: from the Internet network to your computer (download) or from your computer to the Internet (upload).
Global Internet usage refers to the number of people who use the Internet worldwide, which can be displayed using tables, charts, maps and articles which contain more detailed information on a wide range of usage measures.

web routers
A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks. Routers perform the traffic directing functions on the Internet. A data packet is typically forwarded from one router to another router through the networks that constitute the internetwork until it reaches its destination node.
LAN's RAN's and WAN's
A local area network (LAN) is a group of computers and associated devices that share a common communications line or wireless link to a server. Typically, a LAN encompasses computers and peripherals connected to a server within a distinct geographic area such as an office or a commercial establishment.
